The action: Get a time-based estimate for programming—not a fixed price per zone. Ask: "How many hours of programming do you estimate per keypad or sensor?"

In Q2 2024, we switched vendors for a project. Vendor A quoted $4,000 for "system commissioning." Vendor B quoted $2,500. The hardware was identical. I almost went with B until I asked for the hourly breakdown. Vendor B estimated 20 hours. Vendor A estimated 18. But Vendor A's hourly rate included a senior programmer who we didn't need. Step 4: Verify the Integrator's Lutron Certification

One Final Note: Know Your Limits
